The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick 124 on Jaylan Ford a full 53 spots early. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach for Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 36; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A safety of that caliber at the 56th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dillon Johnson in pick 100, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Leonard Taylor III in No. 111 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Jaylan Ford at the 124th overall pick, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Ainias Smith reach the 147th overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Myles Jones at pick No. 174 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Neyor at pick 212, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
DeMonte Capehart at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sheridan Jones at the 256th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
