The war room fell hard for Braelon Allen, and it showed at pick 125: 30 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Coleman. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Keon Coleman at the 36th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Trey Benson at pick 56 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Matt Goncalves, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Khyree Jackson went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 3. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Braelon Allen in the 125th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Jaylan Ford in pick 173, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
