You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Khyree Jackson at pick No. 74, roughly 31 spots before his name belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.11 · Pick 43 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 53
The board had cheaper options than Kingsley Suamataia at the 43rd pick, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 50
Nothing to complain about; Graham Barton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
They reached a country mile for Khyree Jackson at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 98
They paid a round early for Audric Estime in Round 3, Pick 24, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
Darius Robinson at No. 110 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 118
Dillon Johnson in pick No. 125 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Isaiah Williams · WR · rank 198
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Williams well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Jontrey Hunter · S · rank 220
Jontrey Hunter at No. 213 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Phil Jurkovec · QB · rank 236
A tidy little value on Phil Jurkovec in the 241st pick, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Jeremy Flax · OT · rank 235
Fair-plus on Jeremy Flax, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
