Philadelphia Eagles

Best value of the weekend goes to the Eagles for Castles: C.

by Anthromench · 2024 NFL Draft · 11 picks · 6 steals · 0 reaches
Value B+
Need B+
Trades F
Future C+

The Eagles did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and McCallan Castles fell into slot 212. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. It is not that Stover is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 13
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.20 · Pick 20 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 19
In pick 20 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Laiatu Latu · DL-EDGE · rank 7
They robbed the room for Laiatu Latu here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 36
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Legette at the 83rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Cade Stover · TE-EDGE · rank 94
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots untouched.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 151
Jaylin Simpson is a better player than pick No. 160 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Grayson Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 168
By-the-book stuff, Grayson Murphy at Round 5, Pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Brennan Jackson · DE-EDGE · rank 174
Brennan Jackson at No. 171 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 149
Somehow Javion Cohen was still sitting there in slot 178, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · McCallan Castles · TE · rank 152
McCallan Castles at Round 6, Pick 37 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.20 · Pick 240 · BJ Mayes · CB · rank 230
BJ Mayes at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
