The Eagles did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and McCallan Castles fell into slot 212. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. It is not that Stover is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 20 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They robbed the room for Laiatu Latu here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Legette at the 83rd overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots untouched.
Jaylin Simpson is a better player than pick No. 160 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Grayson Murphy at Round 5, Pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brennan Jackson at No. 171 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Javion Cohen was still sitting there in slot 178, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
McCallan Castles at Round 6, Pick 37 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
BJ Mayes at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
