You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Carson Steele at the 213th overall pick, roughly 46 spots before his name belonged. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in the 56th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at pick 73, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khyree Jackson in pick No. 87, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 125th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Frank Gore Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 37. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Joshua Cephus at the 207th pick, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Carson Steele in pick 213, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
