It is the swing that defines the weekend: Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 25, a good 30 spots before the room expected him.
Landing Guyton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Tyler Guyton was the payoff at No. 56. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Marist Liufau at par in pick 87, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Braelon Allen in slot 125, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at pick No. 173 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Phil Jurkovec at Round 6, Pick 38, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Carson Steele at No. 242 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
