Nobody had Joshua Cephus this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 26 spots to get him at slot 213. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Matt Goncalves in slot 87 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Tommy Eichenberg went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 25. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jaylan Ford at the 173rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joshua Cephus at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
