The Joshua Cephus pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 26 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Walker to cover a lot of smaller sins.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Guyton. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Devontez Walker is a better player than slot 56 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trey Benson in No. 65 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Khyree Jackson at pick 87, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Cedric Gray enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They read the board right and Joe Milton III was the payoff at the 173rd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Joshua Cephus in the 213th overall pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Carson Steele, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
