The Cowboys spent real capital to be 32 picks early on Braelon Allen, and the board is going to hold them to it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Landing Latu that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Laiatu Latu at pick No. 24. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 56 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for McKinnley Jackson in the 87th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylan Ford in No. 173 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, De'Corian Clark in pick 213. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kedon Slovis at the 242nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
