You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Braelon Allen in No. 126.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Wright value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Payton Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 57. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A big swing on Matt Goncalves at Round 3, Pick 24, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Cam Hart at the 125th overall pick, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braelon Allen at pick 126 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at the 168th pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Jaylen Wright higher than the Round 5 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
