The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 31 spots for Phil Jurkovec, and value like that does not grow back. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Tracy Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Patrick Paul in pick No. 56. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trey Benson in the 63rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Khyree Jackson in slot 87, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They jumped the gun on Jaylan Ford, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Phil Jurkovec at the 213th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Tyrone Tracy Jr. higher than No. 214, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
