The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
Walker falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 4 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in the 104th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good price on Will Shipley in slot 136, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylan Ford at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
