There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cowboys started one anyway for Jaylan Ford, 58 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McMillan.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
T'Vondre Sweat in No. 56 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jalen McMillan at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Jaylan Ford at pick No. 125, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in pick 173: Jaylen Wright for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, David Ugwoegbu in slot 213 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster logic is harder to follow.
