You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Kedon Slovis in Round 7, Pick 22.
On value alone, Allen makes the weekend a net positive. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a blindside protector at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
T'Vondre Sweat at No. 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Jalen McMillan was the payoff at the 87th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in slot 125; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Braelon Allen in the Round 5 slot. It fills a real need, too.
A reach on Ryan Watts in pick 213; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Kedon Slovis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
