The Cowboys spent real capital to be 47 picks early on Carson Steele, and the board is going to hold them to it.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a weapon on the perimeter, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
A conviction pick on Trey Benson at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matt Goncalves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Jefferson in slot 174 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Carson Steele well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
