The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Alfred Collins, the No. 56 name on the board, sitting there at Round 3, Pick 15 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Wohler proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Isaiah Bond in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Alfred Collins in Round 3, Pick 15 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Logan Brown in pick No. 148, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Cobee Bryant in pick 207, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Hunter Wohler in No. 238; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Fair-plus on Marcus Yarns, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
