You could see the war room lean forward. Josh Proctor at Round 7, Pick 3 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with quarterback and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The Thomas reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 5; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 38th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Sedrick Van Pran in slot 69 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mekhi Wingo at pick No. 72 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at quarterback and running back sat open.
They did well to land Cedric Gray in the 139th pick, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wild overpay on AJ Barner in No. 183, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Josh Proctor was still sitting there in No. 223, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Xavier Thomas at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
