The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 213 on Carson Steele a full 69 spots early.
However the rest shakes out, Fautanu at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Taking Troy Fautanu in No. 56 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Junior Colson at pick No. 87 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in the 99th pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tommy Eichenberg in Round 4, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in pick 173: Braelon Allen for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Steele in pick No. 213, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
