The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 242 on DeMonte Capehart a full 56 spots early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kiran Amegadjie at the 56th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Junior Colson at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khyree Jackson this early at Round 3, Pick 24. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Braelon Allen at No. 125 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at pick No. 173, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for David Ugwoegbu at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
A real head-scratcher, DeMonte Capehart in the 242nd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
