The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Mims falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Keon Coleman slipping to the 34th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Amarius Mims at slot 42 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Guyton in pick No. 52. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malachi Corley in No. 68 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 4 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Luke McCaffrey in the 136th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Frank Gore Jr. in pick 182, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
