You can draft well and still miss the point. The Eagles did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to interior defensive lineman, which was the need that mattered most. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Watson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will need Proctor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had Xavier Worthy higher than No. 54, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A tidy little value on Audric Estime in the 101st overall pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Johnny Dixon at the Round 5 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Cedric Gray in Round 5, Pick 2, just ahead of his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
By-the-book stuff, Kitan Oladapo at the 163rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Brennan Jackson in pick 172 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had cheaper options than Josh Proctor at No. 178, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Blake Watson in pick No. 243 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
