The Chargers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 118 on Javion Cohen a full 31 spots early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in pick 37. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Bucky Irving, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Ainias Smith in No. 105; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Javion Cohen. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 142nd overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Michael Barrett at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Zion Logue this early at pick 226. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Xavier Thomas in slot 236 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
