The Eagles went off the board in a big way for Xavier Thomas, 77 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The Allen value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid up for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 18 when waiting would have done the job. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 54 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in pick 97, where Roman Wilson graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on James Williams in the 137th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, LaDarius Henderson went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Braelon Allen is a better player than Round 5, Pick 36 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Xavier Thomas at pick No. 178, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Jayson Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
