The Braelon Allen pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 34 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell in pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Junior Colson in pick No. 56, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Matt Goncalves in slot 87, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 26 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Braelon Allen at the 125th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaylan Ford in No. 173 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
De'Corian Clark at Round 6, Pick 38 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
