Whoever sat across the table from the Chargers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Gould pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Bottom line, with Cooper DeJean leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kris Jenkins in slot 37 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Christian Haynes in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Jacob Cowing in the 106th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dallin Holker in pick No. 139 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Michael Barrett went about where he belonged in pick 183. A minor itch, scratched.
Jawhar Jordan in No. 223 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Anthony Gould at Round 7, Pick 36 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
