The Commanders spent real capital to be 46 picks early on J.C. Davis, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They banked enough surplus on Hancock to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Josaiah Stewart was the payoff at slot 61. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Darien Porter at the 79th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jay Higgins at the 148th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Luke Lachey, who had no business lasting to pick 207. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jordan Hancock in Round 7, Pick 20 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
J.C. Davis at No. 250 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
