After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They will need Harrell to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 10, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Dominick Puni went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at pick 130, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Ty'Ron Hopper at No. 156 squarely in line with his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Layden Robinson in slot 166 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylen Harrell in the 179th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 190 with a little surplus value in Curtis Jacobs. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
