The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 231 on DeMonte Capehart a full 93 spots early.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Coleman pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Keon Coleman in No. 56 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Khyree Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Jaylen Wright in pick No. 173, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
They reached into another round for Darius Muasau, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DeMonte Capehart in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They jumped the gun on Taulia Tagovailoa, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
