Call it larceny. Christian Jones sat on the board until the Round 7 slot, and the Eagles did not need to be asked twice.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots went begging.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Hit on Cooper DeJean and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get juice off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in the 50th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots to take Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE that was not the priority.
Braelon Allen at slot 160 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fair-plus on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Nehemiah Pritchett was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kitan Oladapo slid further than he should have, and pick 178 is lovely value for the safety. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Javon Baker at Round 6, Pick 14 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Christian Jones in pick No. 240 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
