The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Malik Mustapha slide 21 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jonathon Brooks in pick 56. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dominick Puni in the 87th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Malik Mustapha at the 173rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Curtis Jacobs at No. 213 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on KT Leveston at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Jowon Briggs in Round 7, Pick 22, and that is fine. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
