Nobody else had DeMonte Capehart anywhere near pick 242. The Cowboys did, by 152 spots, and that gap is the whole story. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Khyree Jackson at slot 87 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylan Ford in Round 5, Pick 37 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 213 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A wild overpay on Joshua Cephus in pick 231, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in Round 7, Pick 22 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
