Call it larceny. Ro Torrence sat on the board until pick 231, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Michael Penix Jr. at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kiran Amegadjie. The roster fit checks out.
They let Malik Washington come to them and pounced at pick 103. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A OLB-EDGE of that caliber at No. 137 is the definition of value, full stop. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Somehow Sataoa Laumea was still sitting there in the 180th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Xavier Thomas in Round 6, Pick 18, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Ro Torrence at slot 231 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
