Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Ravens were there to profit. Germie Bernard, the No. 62 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 92.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Joshua Josephs in pick No. 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 15 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Germie Bernard in No. 92 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Skyler Bell come to them and pounced at slot 96. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in the 143rd overall pick, with Oscar Delp worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Charles Demmings in pick 152, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jeff Caldwell at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Thaddeus Dixon at pick No. 229, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
