The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They are betting Reed proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Verse.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

They robbed the room for Jared Verse here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in slot 68: Xavier Worthy for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Kingsley Suamataia in No. 69, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Dominick Puni, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 3. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dallin Holker at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Dwight McGlothern at the 180th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They let Jha'Quan Jackson come to them and pounced at the 193rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Austin Reed in No. 231, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
