The Dolphins did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Lathan Ransom fell into pick 199.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Reaching for Martinez left real value on the table behind him.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Adding Christian Darrisaw by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a wrecking ball inside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T.J. Sanders in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at the 100th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick 114 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Barrett Carter in No. 133, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Quinshon Judkins in the 149th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Jake Majors in slot 154 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Lathan Ransom at Round 6, Pick 24 is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Joshua Gray at the 200th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Damien Martinez in pick 201 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
