The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chiefs watched Rome Odunze slide 20 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 31 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on D.J. James at pick No. 63, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalen McMillan at the Round 3 slot is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Isaiah Adams in the 131st overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Johnson. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kitan Oladapo in the 171st pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jaylan Ford at No. 175 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Austin Stogner at Round 6, Pick 34 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
