Somebody in pick 233 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Kamal Hadden, the No. 167 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Reaching for Anderson left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in No. 64. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at pick 87, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaylan Ford at Round 5, Pick 38 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Evan Anderson at the 216th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Kamal Hadden at slot 233 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trajan Jeffcoat at the 244th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
