Somewhere a general manager is explaining how De'Corian Clark got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at pick 224. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Jones to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
In No. 20 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 28
A clean, defensible pick in the 34th overall pick with a little surplus value in Brian Thomas Jr.. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 37
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bralen Trice at slot 52. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 60
Nice patience on Jonathon Brooks, who had no business lasting to pick No. 69. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 82
By-the-book stuff, Roman Wilson at Round 3, Pick 20 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
The board had Bucky Irving higher than the 103rd pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 137
Cam Hart at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 143
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in pick 142, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
Christian Jones in Round 6, Pick 7 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.4 · Pick 224 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 200
Somehow De'Corian Clark was still sitting there in pick 224, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Brevyn Spann-Ford · TE · rank 224
A quiet steal in slot 232: Brevyn Spann-Ford for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
