The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The cost of the Sanders reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
Jayden Daniels at pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
In pick No. 27 they get a matchup weapon at tight end, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Adonai Mitchell at the 35th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at slot 36 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Chris Braswell at par in the 40th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had cheaper options than Trey Benson at Round 3, Pick 14, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Maason Smith in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mason McCormick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Dallin Holker at the 152nd pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
