Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Denzel Boston, the No. 31 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 151. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Miller has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 30 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 43. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Circle this one: Chris Brazzell II at the 75th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 23 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. A.J. Haulcy in the 90th overall pick leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Keylan Rutledge at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Oscar Delp in No. 130 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Denzel Boston in the 151st pick, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Cole Payton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Jeff Caldwell in Round 7, Pick 22 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
