The tape said wait; the Eagles did not. Trente Jones went at the Round 5 slot, a good 24 picks before the board was ready. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Turner falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get juice off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took T.J. Tampa at par in pick 50, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at the 53rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tykee Smith at No. 161 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trente Jones in the 171st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Cornelius Johnson at the 172nd pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
