There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Blake Watson a full 77 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The Ulofoshio value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in No. 41. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Payton Wilson at pick 58 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value with a capital V on Austin Booker in Round 3, Pick 25, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in slot 91: Max Melton for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Mason McCormick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Malik Mustapha in pick 169, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Garret Greenfield at pick No. 202 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Blake Watson at the 211th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Donovan Jennings at Round 6, Pick 44 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach on Sam Hartman in No. 245; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Edefuan Ulofoshio was still sitting there in slot 255, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
