Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Dolphins never addressed quarterback, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.
On value alone, Vaki makes the weekend a net positive. The Hopper reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a long-term starter on the line, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caelen Carson at No. 97. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Braelon Allen at the 102nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 157 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Sione Vaki was still sitting there in pick No. 186, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nathan Thomas in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Ryan Cooper Jr., who had no business lasting to the 239th pick. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
