The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. Jimmy Horn Jr. went at the Round 7 slot, a good 114 picks before the board was ready. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Cornelius at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Denzel Burke in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ajani Cornelius at the 154th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dorian Strong at the 207th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Miles Frazier, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Jimmy Horn Jr. in slot 238 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Donovan Edwards at the 250th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
