Call it larceny. Tahj Washington sat on the board until pick 241, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Hopper reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
They jumped the gun on Zach Frazier, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 23, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Braden Fiske in the 58th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a safety like Kamren Kinchens reach the 83rd pick and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Baker at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 126 with a little surplus value in McKinnley Jackson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Newton at No. 138. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Brennan Jackson went about where he belonged in slot 154. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Kitan Oladapo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A reach on Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 169; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Travis at pick 184 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in Round 6, Pick 23. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylen Harrell at the 202nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tahj Washington in pick No. 241 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
