The tape said wait; the Cardinals did not. JJ Pegues went at the Round 5 slot, a good 35 picks before the board was ready. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Felton to cover a lot of smaller sins.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid a round early for Jaxson Dart in Round 2, Pick 15, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Aeneas Peebles at pick 78 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tai Felton at the 113th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They talked themselves into JJ Pegues at pick No. 151, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
