Thirty-one other rooms let DJ Giddens slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at pick No. 250. Highway robbery. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a green-dot type in the middle, and a steal at that. More want than need.
A slide stopped in pick No. 61, with Jonah Savaiinaea worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick 79, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Anthony Belton still on the board at the 148th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Quincy Riley in No. 207 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Kobe Hudson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
DJ Giddens at the 250th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
