There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took David Walker a full 111 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Getting Thornton Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

In the 29th pick they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
They left a pile of value on the table to take David Walker this early at the 61st overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darien Porter. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Cody Simon come to them and pounced at No. 148. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They barely believed it either: Logan Brown still on the board at the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach pick No. 238 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 250th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
