More right than wrong for the Cowboys, and a B to prove it.

The war room fell hard for Steve Linton, and it showed at slot 248: 150 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Getting Lawson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Mason Graham · DT · rank 6
In pick 13 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 28
They read the board right and Emeka Egbuka was the payoff at the 44th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 56
Dylan Fairchild at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 100
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at the 148th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 129
Domani Jackson in No. 168 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 81
You do not let a linebacker like Deontae Lawson reach pick No. 170 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.34 · Pick 171 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 133
Taking Oronde Gadsden II in No. 171 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Ricky White III · WR · rank 194
No edge and no loss on Ricky White III in Round 6, Pick 14; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Le'Veon Moss · RB · rank 149
A running back of that caliber at pick 209 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Steve Linton · LB-EDGE · rank 398
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Steve Linton. It adds depth where they could use a little.
