Call it larceny. Tyler Shough sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.
McLeod has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 12: Omarion Hampton for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Jalen Royals higher than slot 76, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Jalen McLeod, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Quincy Riley. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
JJ Pegues at the 172nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at pick 174 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 190, where Jaylen Reed graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tyler Shough at No. 211 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had cheaper options than Kaden Prather at the Round 7 slot, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
